Last Friday, I also went to the Virginia portion of the Assateague Island National Seashore. The unusually warm weather has delayed the fall migration somewhat so very few Snow Geese had arrived yet but I found a flock of them on the marsh side of the dunes. Thousands of Snow Geese winter here, along with Canada and Brandt Geese and it is quite a spectacular sight to see. And when they take flight, their calls are so loud that conversation is nearly impossible. I spent a little time photographing the Snows in flight…they were too far away for decent shots with my 300mm lens. On my ocean beach walk, the only shorebirds present were Sanderlings and Willets but I managed to get some fabulous photos of them running in and out of the surf. Here are some of the photos from the afternoon. Enjoy and stay tuned for Part 3 of my trip.
